Tear Repair
Intensive workshop which will teach the skills of distinctive tear mending techniques for canvases.
In the last decade, the trend in conservation has been towards minimal intervention. Theoretically, we all know what that implies, however practice is another matter. The decisions and choices we make about treating a work of art are crucial. What does the art work need to have done to it, and what knowledge and resorces are there to affront those needs.
Minimal intervention on the artwork does not mean minimal work.
Lining, relining, sandwich lining, strip linings... there are so many choices; adhesives, temperatures, pressure barriers, lining materials.
New innovative tecniques are available to simplify even complex problems. Soldering, thermoplastic "stitching", spider inserts, gauzing.
This workshop will teach specialist skills for the conservation and restoration of canvas suports.
